When Tony and Catherine Newman moved to Arizona in 2018 they began to realize all of the amazing things they missed about the Pacific Northwest. Fresh hop beers. Toshi's teriyaki. Beecher's Mac & Cheese. But they also enjoyed the Arizona sunshine. So why not open a taproom here in Arizona with all the stuff they love about the Pacific NW? Wicked Rain opened in early 2022 and has quickly become a neighborhood favorite as well as THE place to catch a Seattle Seahawks football game. Join me and Steven "Wizard of Za" Larson as we sit down with Tony to hear all about this Gilbert gem.

A true legend to any fan of late-90's/early-2000's punk rock, Emily Whitehurst cut her teeth on the edge. She is now the solo artist behind Survival Guide. Her danceable tunes are somewhat like a birthday cake: alternating layers of Depeche Mode, Metric, Peter Gabriel and Grimes, with strong melodies and vocals being the icing on top. A California native who now resides in Texas, Whitehurst is currently crafting her second full-length album as Survival Guide (though the fifth of her career).

Coming up this Saturday, November 12th, Salt River Fields will put on one of the greatest beer festivals in all of the land. Arizona Barrels, Bottles & Brews brings the best creators of adult beverages in our state to one spot. This year I got to make a dry-hopped hazy IPA called "7th Inning Quench" for the event alongside Salt River Fields, Simple Machine Brewing, and Brewery 602. The beer will also be available in cans at the brewery (label design by yours truly. MLB, please don't sue me).

A few years ago I went to Last Exit Live, a super cool music club in downtown Phoenix, to see the amazing Mike Pinto. Mike came through as usual for the main show but it was the opener that really blew me away. And then I found out they were local. From that moment forward, The Hourglass Cats (THC) have been a heavy part of my music rotation. As Cori describes his style, "gypsy cowboy" couldn't more fitting.
